Curriculum
Practical Life
Practical life activities are exercises in daily living. By perfecting buttoning and tying, pouring and scrubbing or practicing grace and courtesy, the child gains confidence and mastery over the environment. These activities contribute to the control and coordination of movement, development of concentration skills through unlimited repetition; and the enhancement of self-esteem by contributing to the group.
Sensorial
These are special toys or sensorial puzzles such as the pink tower, the color tablets that illustrate concepts such as large and small, hot and cold and so on. These materials have a specific way to be used because it is in this way that the child develops an understanding of the concept each is designed to teach.
Language
Montessori begins by placing the youngest students in classes where the older students are already reading. All children want to "do what the big kids can do," and as the intriguing work that absorbs the older students involves reading, there is a natural lure for the young child. Beginning at age two or three, Montessori children are introduced to a few letters at a time until they have mastered the entire alphabet.
Mathematics
Montessori students use hands on learning materials that make abstract concepts clear and concrete. They can literally see and explore what is going on. Dr. Montessori designed concrete materials to represent all types of quantities, after she observed that the child who becomes interested in counting likes to touch or move the items as he enumerates them. In a Montessori environment, a child not only sees the symbol for one, one thousand or one-half, he can also hold each of the corresponding quantities in his hand.
Cultural Arts and Science
Montessori's integrated thematic curriculum allows a broad scope of studying in the areas of history, geography, botany, zoology and international culture.
Summer Program
During the summer, the school prepares special activities for the children. Some of the activities include field trips, water play, arts and crafts, international day, puppet shows, Dance class, music class and a lot more.
